GENERAL

On 4th January 1999 new signalling was introduced, controlled from the Guildford Area Control Centre.

Standard multiple aspect signals are used (prefix GD), with Track Circuit Block working.

RUNNING AND PLATFORM LINES

The Up Main line is signalled for bidirectional working from Guildford station to Shalford Junction.

Platforms 6 and 7 are positioned on either side of the same running line, the Up Ash line. It is platform 6 which is normally used by passengers joining and alighting from trains on this line.

Bidirectional working is provided for on platform lines 3, 5, 6/7 and 8.

Permissive working of trains of classes 1,2,3 and 5 is permitted on all platform lines. The capacity of platforms is as follows:-

Station Platform No. of Coaches

Guildford 2 - 6 12
				1 & 8 8

London Rd both 8

Shalford both 4

Freight and Empty Coaching Stock trains and light engines may terminate or originate from:

Up Sidings (Carriage Sidings 1-3, Dock Siding and Tamper Sidings)
Down Sidings (including Down Goods Siding)

ELECTRIFICATION

All lines in the controlled area are electrified using the 750V DC third rail system, with the exception of the Up and Down Redhill lines.

SPECIAL SIGNALLING ARRANGMENTS

See the List of Routes for details of approach controlled signals, etc. Note the special arrangements designed to prevent trains being stopped in Chalk Tunnel.

TRAINS TERMINATING AT SHALFORD

In this simulation, trains terminating at Shalford and forming a return working will be automatically renumbered shortly after arrival.

They should then be signalled forward using signal 912, and the program will bring them to a stand beyond signal 341, ready for the operator to complete the shunt movement across to the opposite platform. There is no need to use the Train/Stop command for these trains.
